Self Study Class

Hey Team:
Congratulations to all the students, teachers and parents who made it through another school year.

As we look to the summer, several things to consider:

Sunday School
We will begin a new unit by Dr. Tony Evans this Sunday entitled, "God, Do You Really Care?" I know many of you will be gone at various times during the summer (as will we). Please come and join us when you can. Your presence is always an encouragement to me, and many others.

Children's Ministry
Jennifer Belcher and Emily Riley have a great summer planned for our children (age 4 through 5th/6th grade) on Sundays and Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. and Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., plus other special events. In addition to fun and games, there will also be Bible study, missions activities, etc. It all sounds great!

Dr. Gardner
Based on the comments I have heard from many of you, I know that I am not the only one who has been richly blessed by Dr. Gardner's ministry with and to us. His sermons are based on Biblical truths, they are easy to understand, and they are very practical. His example for us is one of Christian character, grace and dignity. Please continue to pray for him, and when the opportunity presents itself, thank him for his service and commitment -- to our Lord and to our church.

Hope to see you soon. Press on.

Prayer request sent to me last week..Randy

Special Request

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TN - We just received word from a friend of ours at Crossroads that the 5 year old daughter of Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman was killed in an accident at their home tonight.

We know that supporters of Shiloh believe in prayer and are always willing to jump in on behalf of others. Shiloh asks k that you and your family remember this wonderful family in your prayers. The Chapman's have always been an incredible picture of family love and stability, and have always put Christ first in all that they do. This will be a tremendous loss to them. Below is also an excerpt that was just released in The Tennessean.

This undated family handout shows from left to right:
Will Franklin, Maria, Steven Curtis, Shaoey, MaryBeth, Stevey Joy, Caleb and Emily Chapman.

------------------------------------------

One of contemporary Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman's six children was killed this afternoon when she was struck by a car said to be driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the family's Williamson County home.

The child, Maria, age 5, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Hospital, which confirmed the death, according to Laura McPherson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

She was hit by an SUV driven by her teenage brother, she said. Police did not give the driver's name.

The teen was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser down the driveway of the rural home at about 5:30 p.m. and several children were playing in the area, McPherson said. He did not see the 5-year-old in the driveway before the vehicle struck her, she said.

"It appears to be a terrible accident,'' McPherson said.
No charges are expected, she said. The accident was witnessed by two other children; the entire family was home at the time, McPherson said.

Chapman, who is originally from Paducah, Ky, and his wife Mary Beth have long been supporters of international adoption, having brought three girls from China into their family. Maria is one of their adopted daughters.

The couple is so active they formed an organization, Shaohannah's Hope, to aid families wanting to adopt.

The tragedy was announced during services at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, which the family attends. The young girl had just graduated from the church preschool.

Most of the family was at Vanderbilt children's hospital after the accident and could not be contacted.

The long gravel driveway leading to the home west of Franklin was blocked off by Williamson County sheriff's deputies.

"The critical response team of the THP is reconstructing the accident," McPherson said. "The district attorney's office was consulted."

Chapman was in the news in April when he was inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame.

------------

Shiloh again wants to thank you for your prayers on behalf of this family.

SelfStudy Sunday School

Hey Team:

PAPA prayer
We will finish our study of the PAPA prayer this Sunday. During the next quarter we will have studies by Dr. Tony Evans and his daughter, Priscilla Shirer. Both should be excellent.

Women's Summer Bible Study
The results of my on-line, unscientific survey reveal a significant preference for the women's summer Bible study to be held on a weekday morning. The good news is that the Wednesday evening women's study will continue through the summer, so hopefully there will continue to be something for everybody. Eva is going to lead the Bible study during the month of July on the book of Jonah. Specific dates and times to be announced.

Summer Children's Workers
Jennifer Belcher and Emily Riley have been hired on a part-time basis to work with our children's ministry this summer. It sounds like they have some great ideas.

The Wombles
Many of you know Brad and Sally (Boyd) Womble who are Southern Baptist missionaries in Niamey, Niger. They will be stateside for part of the summer and will once again be staying in the Wells Missionary Residence (red house next to the CLC). Please be in prayer for them as they come to be with us. Their second oldest daughter, Ruth, will be staying in KY to attend college at Campbellsville where their oldest, Emily, is already a student.

If you're going to be out of pocket this weekend, be careful. If not, hope to see you Sunday.

Press on.

Women's Bible Study -- July

Hey Female Team Members! (sorry guys):

Eva is going to lead a women's Bible study in July on the book of Jonah. Several of you spent a few minutes after Sunday School this morning discussing when the best time would be for certain things this summer, like the Bible study. As is always the case with things like this, no day or time is going to be "best" for everybody. Understanding that things like childcare, spending time with your husband/families in the evening, etc. are all part of the equation, let's do a simple, unscientific survey to see what might be best for you.

If you are interested in participating in the July study, would it be best for it to take place:

A. In the evening during the week (if so, what day and time is best)?
B. In the morning during the week (if so, what day and time is best)?
C. In the afternoon during the week (if so, what day and time is best)?
D. Other (please specify).

Please let us hear back from you.

Thanks...
Andrew

Self Study

Hey Team:

Hope you are all well.

We are continuing our study of the "PAPA Prayer" by Dr. Larry Crabb. In thinking about the first "P" -- "Present yourself to God," I am reminded of the paraphrase of Matthew 6:6-8 in The Message, "Find a quiet, secluded place . . . just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense His grace."

Here's something to think about: Try spending time in prayer without asking God for anything -- just be there and see what happens.

Children's Musical

Thanks to EVERYBODY who helped make our children's musical a wonderful success! Is there anything we do as a church that is more important than investing in the spiritual lives of our children? Thanks to the choir leaders, creative movement leaders, snack people, behavior modifiers, and all the parents, grandparents and friends who care enough about these children to involve them in these activities. Well done!

Nursery -- Mother's Day

Not unlike King David, we too have a group of "mighty men" who are ready to work in the nursery this Sunday during the morning worship service, so no mothers have to. As I told them, this task has "playground" and "refreshments" written all over it. So, thanks to Mike Stewart, Kahle Morris, Mark Gary, Mike Taylor, Max Sturdivant, and Mike Beck for joining me. Pack a poncho and a change of clothes for the kids -- it's going to be fun!

See you soon.

Press on....
Andrew
