The Ant and The Lens...

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens. "Great", she thought. "Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry."

She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there. She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.
When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was
not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth."

She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me."
Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?"

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it! The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, "Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You." I think it would do all of us some good to say, "God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will."

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each an d every day. Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him....I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

Prayer Request - Christian County Health Department

I am concerned about the Christian County Health Department. We are 5th largest county and no medical director, no executive director, no visionary/future program and approximately $6M in the bank which the state is investigating and may take back. We need prayer for the 12 Board of Directors that they may become unified and directed to serve the health needs of our community.

Thanks!

Great Verses to Study

Hey Team!

Below are the verses that we discussed yesterday in Sunday School. As we discussed, these are all great verses to study, to know, to memorize and to claim.

I John 1:9
Romans 12:2
Philippians 4:8
Philippians 3:12-14
Philippians 4:6-7

When we read, study and speak the Word of God, we cannot help but draw closer to Him.

Weekly SelfStudy

Hey Team!

We are going to conclude our study this Sunday on "When Godly People Do Ungodly Things." Among other things, we are going to look at several Scripture passages that provide help, hope and healing in difficult times.

Our cottage prayer meetings got off to a great start last week. We will be meeting in homes again this Sunday at 6:00 p.m. and then again on September 9. It's not too late to get involved and there is room for everyone. I appreciate those who were in attendance at the Stewarts (the Stewarts, the Watsons, the Batts, and the Clarks). We would love to have you join us if you don't have anywhere else to go.

Thanks also to all of you who are helping Eva and Jeff with children's and youth activities. There are a lot of exciting things going on at our church! Let's continue to be patient, supportive and involved.

Hope to see you Sunday!

Press on....

Special Prayer Request

Hey Andrew,
I just wanted to request prayer for Leigh Ann's mother, Carol Burkhead, today. She is possibly going to have to testify in trial today and she is very nervous and upset. I ask that everyone pray that she would have courage, strength, and peace as she goes throught this trying time for her. Thanks, Mike.

Weekly SelfStudy

Hey Team!:

If you can only come to Sunday School one more time this year -- PLEASE COME THIS SUNDAY! As we kick off our season of prayer for our upcoming revival, we are going to watch a video of Jim Cymbala, pastor of The Brooklyn Tabernacle, who delivers a simple, but powerful message on prayer. Please don't miss it!

I truly believe that whether we experience revival in the days to come will not depend on what happens from September 16 - 19 (the dates of the "revival"), but rather what happens in our hearts and lives between now and then. "There is power, power, wonder working power, in the precious blood of the Lamb."

Please pray for our children's and youth activities as they gear up in full swing. Please also remember the Woolfolks this weekend as their daughter, Abby, gets married on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Benton. If you need directions to the church, please let me know.

* Please give us comments on this weeks blog post below

special prayer request

One of my patients has asked me to have you please add her step daughter to our prayer list and any of your friends. Her name is Keesha and she's 12 years old. She moved here from out of state and is having multiple issues related to being molested when she was much younger. Her family fears if they don't reach her soon, they may lose her. She is presently in Radcliffe, Ky. at a treatment facility but needs to go to a special treatment program that is 6-8 months long which her insurance is not going to cover. It is not medically necessary. The family feels this is the only hope for help for their daughter. Please remember her in your prayers.
Thanks Judy

Weekly Self Study - August 9th

Hey Team:

His blessings really are new every morning -- and we are experiencing them in abundance at FBC these days. What a great blessing it was last Sunday to witness Greer Peck's profession of faith, and to receive Mike and C
heri Taylor and Jerry and Wanda Collins as new members!

It was also a difficult we
ek for Cheri as she lost her grandfather (Cathy Liebe's father). Please remember to pray for their family, and also for Jeff Newton with regard to his mother's critical health issues.

With the start of school, a lot of other things are just around the corner. Wednesday night
suppers start next Wednesday, August 15. Children's choirs and other children's worship and discipleship opportunities start Sunday, August 19 at 5:00 p.m. (note: Missions activities will remain on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. and will begin August 22). Our youth will also have opportunities on both Sunday and Wednesday evenings. Plus, we will have discipleship opportunities for adults at those times as well. Our cottage prayer meetings will be held in homes on August 19, 26, and September 9 in preparation for our revival, September 16-19. Please seek God's guidance about how you and your family can be involved.

You may also know that we now have a new Minister/Director of Children's Activities. My most wonderful wife, Eva,
has accepted this position and will do it on a part-time, volunteer basis for at least a year. While I believe and know that Eva has been blessed with the gifts, insights, and experiences necessary to do this "job" very effectively, I also know that she needs, wants and values your thoughts, ideas and help in training and reaching our children. Saddle up your horses . . . this is going to be a great ride.

Randy
and I are still working on the blog (mostly Randy).
Stay tuned.....

We forgot to take up our "first Sunday of the month offering" last week, so we will do it this Sunday.

Hope to see you Sunday.

Weely Self Study - August 5th

Hey Team!

What a blessing it was to witness the baptism of Paige Morris and Avery Daniel, as well as the public profession of faith in Christ by Sarah Watson last Sunday. We were also reminded Sunday evening of what an awesome opportunity and responsibility we have as a church family to raise, equip and disciple our children.

Thanks for your faithfulness in attending Sunday School. Certainly, we understand that things arise from time to time that prevent folks from attending, but it is great when everybody is there and we can enjoy each other's fellowship and learn from each other. Our attendance, participation and commitment has been great all summer -- thanks!

Let's continue to pray for our church as we try to discern how we can best "equip the saints" in our fellowship. I believe there will be some great opportunities in the near future to become better and more efficient in this most important area. Let's be ready . . . and let's be willing . . . because we know He is able.

Press on,
Andrew
