Prayer Request

Tim Blakeman has requested prayer for his mother, Bertha Blakeman, who became ill today and had to be taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington.  Ms. Blakeman has been battling a number of health issues for some time.  Please remember this family in your prayers.

Working Replica of Noah's Ark Opens In SCHAGEN, Netherlands        The massive central door in the side of Noah's Ark was thrown open Saturday for the first crowd of curious Pilgrims and townsfolk to behold the wonder.  Of course, it's only a replica of the biblical ark, built by Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible.   The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That's two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house. Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold. A contractor by trade, Huibers built the ark of cedar and pine.  Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by Noah would have been. Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005. On the uncovered top deck - not quite ready in time for the opening - will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and goats, and one camel. Visitors on the first day were stunned. 'It's past comprehension, ' said Mary Louise Starosciak, who happened to be bicycling by with her husband while on vacation when they saw the ark looming over the local landscape. 'I knew the story of Noah, but I had no idea the boat would have been so big.' There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark.   Huibers said he hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands, where church-going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.   ''If You Need Help, Ask God. Hey Team:

 

It's great to be back from a terrific week at camp.  Thanks again to Andy for teaching our class in my absence.  A few things for your consideration:

 

1.  Centrikid/Centifuge Reports

 

Both our children and our youth will give reports on their recent camp experiences this Sunday evening, July 6, at 6:00 p.m.  It should be fun.  Hope you can attend.

 

2.  Women's Bible Study -- Led by Eva 

 

Beginning tonight, July 2 at 6:00 p.m., Eva will be leading a Bible study on the book of Jonah.  All women are invited to attend.  The study will continue each Wednesday night throughout the month of July.  I think Eva is a great Bible study teacher, and if you don't believe me you should come and see for yourself.

 

3.  Marriage

 

For some time, many of you have expressed a desire to have some sort of marriage retreat, conference, seminar, etc.  Unfortunately, most in our class were unable to attend the Gary Smalley simulcast at our church  back in April.  So, I thought our class might do our own thing.  My inclination is to get Tommy Nelson's "Song of Solomon" study which some of you are familiar with.  This is great stuff and would combine weekly DVD presentations and discussion.  I believe it will last approximately 11 weeks.  The cost would be a couple hundred dollars which I suggest our class pay and then donate the series to the church when we are done.  Let's talk about it in more detail this Sunday and then we'll decide.  One catch:  we would have to start the DVD at 9:30 a.m. sharp to get it all in each week.

 

4.  The Wombles

 

The Wombles are here from Niger.  They will be staying in our missionary residence during the months of July and August.  Let's make them feel welcome.

Misti French is a friend and colleague of mine from Pembroke Elementary.  A few days ago in a tragic set of circumstances her husband Tim died while riding a four wheeler.  After an autopsy, authorities suspect he had a heart attack.  Tim and Misti's son Zach and friend Thomas David found Tim and attempted to administer CPR until others could arrive.  The visitation is scheduled for the 4th of July with the funeral the 5th in Morganfield, Kentucky.  Tim survived two tours in Iraq while in the Army.The family was visiting extended family in Louisianna before he returned to Iraq to work as a civilian consultant.  The depth of this tragedy can only be equaled by the love these three people have for each other.  They lived life and loved each other to the fullest daily.  Please remember  Misti & Zach French and Zach's friend, Thomas David Berry in your prayers.
